Strengthening hyperlocal connection to ensure every neighbor thrives.

THE FOUNDATION

Our Vision

We envision a world where communities heal and grow strong, one neighbor – one neighborhood – at a time.

What We Believe

We believe:

  • A neighborhood is a community, and community is built on relationships.

  • When healthy, strong relationships are built, people are seen and valued, and welcomed as who they are. That dispels lonliness and creates belonging .

  • Where belonging exists, safety nets are created and offered to all in need making it possible to overcome individual challenges while strengthening bonds and ensuring neighbors can thrive.

  • The key to keeping people connected, healthy — and even housed — while healing our world lies in our backyards, in our neighborhoods.

What We Do

Our programs focus on sowing connection, filling gaps, and deepening stocks of trust and reciprocity. Scroll down to find out more.

Where We Work

We’re focused on our backyard, which is a small neighborhood in Austin called Southwood. Bordered by Ben White Blvd, Menchaca Road, West Stassney Lane, and South First, it’s historically diverse. Now defined as an ‘up and coming’ neighborhood because of Austin’s explosive growth, many of its long-time residents have been displaced. By strengthening community and building safety nets together, our goal is to ensure that never happens again.

Our Programs

  • Neighboring

What might happen if you believed your neighbors had your back through thick and thin? Creating a deep sense of belonging can ensure there are no strangers in the neighborhood (unless it’s by choice) and that support is available to anyone when needed.

To offer a hand when there’s need; to dispel loneliness where it lies in secret; to roll up your sleeves and pitch in on projects that seem small to some but are increasingly challenging for others, and to reciprocate in kind when possible — this is the goal of neighboring.

  • Gathering

From block parties to outdoor movies and other neighborhood-wide gatherings, the goal is to bring old and new neighbors together to build a strong and safe community, strengthen bonds, get to know and support newcomers, build trust, create traditions, and spark joy, which is vital to wellbeing. And who among us, especially these days, couldn’t use a little more of that?

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, gathering reminds us that we’re stronger together than we are alone.

  • Safety Net Fund

No one can anticipate an emergency or a life altering event that makes meeting basic needs, unexpected expenses or financial emergencies impossible. Whether due to a life-altering event, an unforseen tragedy, or because of an ongoing hardship, we’re here to help bridge the tough times.

Funds can be used to pay for food, clothing, shelter, transportation, and healthcare, or for property-improvement needs like wheelchair ramps or roof repairs. Funds can also be used to help close the gap on property tax increases.

  • “Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much.”

    ~Helen Keller
