How to be a Good Neighbor
Of course, there’s a list for this. There’s a list for everything these days.
I have to say, though, that in the 7+ months my family and I’ve lived here, I've seen countless examples of people being good neighbors. From mowing lawns for others to walking their dogs to sharing baked goods — neighbors are out there doing good stuff for each other. This feels like a truly special place to have made our home.
But if you’re short on ideas and want to up your neighborly skills, here are a few tips:
Deliver a welcome basket to a new resident. Besides a few treats, consider recommending your favorate local restaurants/cafes, coffee shops, dry cleaner etc. It can be hard to start over in a new place; a simple gesture can mean a lot.
Clean up trash as you walk through the neighborhood. The winds here can get gusty and bring in rubish from many places, especially from the lots where new construction is happening.
If you’re growing fruits and vegetables, consider sharing the bounty of your harvest. Who doesn’t love vine rippened?
Set up chairs or a hammock out front; it sends the signal that you’re open to engaging — even if it’s just to say hello.
